"I have learned how to properly fuel my body based on my goals- and for me it's about being stronger and moving faster"

Bringing in the new year, we celebrate Melanie Wolfrum as Crowned Athlete of the Month!  Melanie’s hard work and consistency have allowed her to grow quickly in CrossFit.  Along with gaining skill and strength, she has been working with our Working Against Gravity nutrition coach, Allie LaForce, to learn how to properly fuel her body!  The change in her approach to nutrition allows her to put 110% into her workouts, sleep better and experience better overall health.  She is the perfect example of why the CrossFit lifestyle works!!!  Outside the box, she holds down a full-time job and volunteers as a coach for Team Ohio Cheer, a sport of the Special Olympics!  Her energy and kindness reach all of us here at Crowned and we truly value her as part of the family.  Congratulations Melanie!!!

Give Us Your Story:
I joined CrossFit Crowned in July 2020, right when gyms were opening back up after being shut down for Covid. I had previously done barre classes, and during the shutdown was confined to living room workouts which quickly became boring. I started looking into CrossFit, and reached out to my best friend Jayme who was previously a Crowned member before moving out of state- the same best friend who spent the last 3 years begging me to come try CrossFit. I asked her what she thought of me joining the gym and if she honestly thought I would die since I was going in with ZERO weightlifting experience. Jayme IMMEDIATELY encouraged me to go, and reminded me everyone starts somewhere. Two weeks later I was signed up in the beginner class, giving blank stares to the coaches as they talked through workouts, and picking up barbells and dumbbells at weights that felt ridiculously heavy to me at the time. I let myself be new. Everyone was encouraging and supportive, and I quickly realized that this gym was a family. I have since been working with Allie LaForce as my nutrition coach for the last year, who has absolutely changed my relationship with food and fitness, and my overall health. I have learned how to properly fuel my body based on my goals- and for me it's about being stronger and moving faster. I'm eating more than ever before, sleeping more than I have in years, and because I am learning how to fuel my body, I have never felt better.
What CrossFit Means To You:
After a year and a half at Crowned, I am constantly reminded that there is always something I can work on. No one comes in on day one with the ability to do every single movement, and that's the beauty of it. In class we are all there to encourage each other, and hype each other up- especially on big PR days. CrossFit Crowned has been my stress relief and my second home. Everyone says it, but this is the best community to be a part of!
Advice For Someone New Or Considering Trying CrossFit:
DO IT. There is NOTHING in CrossFit that cannot be scaled to you and your fitness level. No one else cares what you are doing during the workout in regards to scaling it down. We all start somewhere, and the best thing you can do is just keep coming back. Each workout leaves you feeling a little bit more badass than the last, so live for that feeling and keep showing up.
What is your favorite movement in CrossFit:
Deadlifts, Squats, and all the hard gymnastic movements I still cannot do :)
