"I enjoy that everyday is a new challenge and even when you become more proficient, or faster or stronger, there is always a new level of competency to reach."

Paul Fuzinski is our April Athlete of the Month! No it isn’t an April fools joke! In all honesty Paul definitely brings a presence to the gym, he is a big guy who works extremely hard in every workout he shows up for. Its no question to see Paul as Athlete of the month for the awesome progress and progressions he’s shown especially lately. Paul is now DESTROYING run workouts that would have beat him up last year, and he is getting gymnastic movements down one after the next, which is no easy feat for a big man! (Big-nastics) Paul set out some goals last year on being able to do a pull up, and other body weight feats, and in just a year he is now able to do pull ups in workouts under fatigue, and even recently Handstand Push Ups!  We have been impressed with the tenacity he brings and are very excited to see what else Paul tackles this year!

Give Us Your Story:
My name is Paul Fuzinski. I work as the Media Director for Friends for Life Residential Care and I also own Aptitude Outdoors where I run a podcast, make travel videos and do videography, photography and social media marketing work for outdoors brands and companies, most recently working with Boy Scouts of America’s Black Swamp Council. In my free time I like to travel, do crossfit and I am part of the music group Astralborne.
What CrossFit Means To You:
What does crossfit mean to me? Pain. I enjoy that everyday is a new challenge and even when you become more proficient, or faster or stronger, there is always a new level of competency to reach. I keep coming back because I want to be better than the day before and I enjoy the camaraderie of everyone at the gym. There is a great support group made up of pretty much every single person that steps in the door and a good balance of talking smack and encouragement.
Advice For Someone New Or Considering Trying CrossFit:
If you are new to crossfit or looking into it, my #1 piece of advice is to SHOW UP. You may feel discouraged at first, but you’re learning some of the most complex and challenging body and weightlifting movements on EARTH, so you’re not doing that bad. Also literally nobody else cares if you aren’t hitting RX weights or what round you’re in, they’re trying to not pass out during the workout.
What is your favorite movement in CrossFit:
My favorite movement in crossfit by far is the deadlift. A lot of other movements are challenging and complex, but with a deadlift it is just you v.s a heavy bar. No hip thrusts, no shoulder mobility issues preventing you from doing the movement, just getting dead weight up off the ground. A close second is pullups because I never thought I’d be able to do pullups, yet here I am.
