This months Athlete of the Month is Rachael Phillips! She has been one of the most consistent members coming to class no matter what we throw at her! She always shows up (sometimes late) to class ready to get to work. Her hard work and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed, and the charisma/positive mentality she brings with her to the 9:15 motivates all of those around her. Rachael is a mother of 4 and she even uses a babysitter to create a time for her to still get a workout in and stay on track with her goals.
Give Us Your Story:
I am a mom of 4 and a wife. 7 years ago I was obsessed with running and working out and made it a priority almost daily. Then, came baby 2, 3, and 4. I was pregnant forever! In April 2019, I had my 4th baby and was getting ready to move back to Toledo. My husband and I were talking about goals for the year and getting back to the gym was on both of our list. We knew we were interested in CrossFit and found CrossFit Crowned. I could tell from the beginning that it was going to be so different than a regular gym. I met with Matt and he asked about my fitness goals and what I wanted to get out of CrossFit. From there, I did one on one training sessions, a few bridge courses and now I’m in class 4-5 days a week!
What CrossFit Means To You:
For me, it’s the people. The coaching and the community. You can workout anywhere and you can fix your diet in your kitchen. You won’t have the support or the community of CrossFit though. CrossFit is such a happy place for me. I have loved everyone I’ve met—getting stronger and losing weight is just the icing on the cake!
Advice For Someone New Or Considering Trying CrossFit:
When I first started Matt told me not to worry about what other people are doing. It’s probably the best advice, I’ve received. Everyday you’re there to better yourself, it doesn’t matter how much weight or how many reps someone else is doing. Being new can be uncomfortable but it doesn’t have to be. The coaches are amazing and will help you figure out what works for you. If you’ve never done CrossFit, I would recommend doing the intro course. It’s so nice to have 1 on 1 with a coach and learn the movements. Plus side, they attend a couple of classes with you and introduce you to other members. If you’re chatty, come to 9:15!
