"it has given me opportunities to set goals, work towards them, fail, succeed and keep raising the bar higher"

This month we recognize Stephanie Perkins as our featured athlete.  We are excited to showcase this long-time member!  She is a very hard worker and known for coaxing that extra 10 percent effort from her friends!!!  Strong, consistent and the ultimate cheerleader, we are proud to have her represent CrossFit Crowned.

Give Us Your Story:
I never played sports in high school so some may say I wasn’t an athlete. I was, however, involved in competitive cheerleading (which involved tumbling and stunting). Post high school, all of my activities came to an end. I was overweight, tired ALL the time, always napping, etc. My younger sister was involved in CrossFit for about 7 years and has always tried getting me to work out with her. I was so out of shape I thought and didn’t have the motivation. A conversation came up with her, and CrossFit Crowned was mentioned as a gym near me that wasn’t super competitive or filled with top notch athletes (they were there though, trust me). She suggested it would be a good place for me if I wanted to check it out. My husband and I did an intro class and signed up for the Beginner Program right afterwards. From there I was hooked!!! Although I don’t have a weight loss journey from starting CrossFit, I have had many other improvements in other areas. I no longer require naps to function, I set my alarm to get up and work out, I plan my days around my workouts, I’m stronger, much more active and I’m always looking for gyms to visit when I travel. CrossFit has provided me with stress relief (unless of course I’m stressing about an open workout or hitting a PR), and given me opportunities to be the cheerleader for other members.
What CrossFit Means To You:
Essentially CrossFit means community, building each other up, goal setting, happiness and motivation. I have found “my happy place” within CrossFit, and it has given me opportunities to set goals, work towards them, fail, succeed and keep raising the bar higher!
Advice For Someone New Or Considering Trying CrossFit:
We all started somewhere. Everyone is on different journeys. CrossFit will get you in shape, you don’t have to be “in shape” to begin.
